What drives someone to wake up every morning and push through pain, exhaustion, and doubt? Is it habit? Duty? Or something far more powerful—a clear sense of purpose that fuels every step forward? Purpose transforms hard work from a chore into a mission. It gives meaning to effort and turns challenges into opportunities for change.
Jordan and Cian Adams, known as the FTD Brothers, embody this truth. Their story shows how purpose combined with support can turn an unimaginable challenge into a beacon of hope for many.

The Power of Purpose in Action
Running a marathon is a test of physical strength and mental grit. Running 33 marathons in 33 days is almost beyond comprehension. Yet, Jordan and Cian Adams did exactly that, covering every county in Ireland. Their goal was not personal glory but to raise awareness and funds for Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and Alzheimer’s disease.
Their motivation is deeply personal. Their mother, Geraldine, passed away from early-onset FTD at 52. Both brothers carry the same inherited gene mutation, giving them a 99.9% chance of developing the disease in their 40s. Instead of surrendering to fear, they chose action.
Jordan began the journey at the London Marathon, carrying a 25kg fridge on his back to represent the heavy burden of a dementia diagnosis. Together, they ran through rain, wind, and fatigue, driven by a mission bigger than themselves.
Why Purpose Changes Everything
Purpose gives hard work wings.
Transforms routine into mission: Every step becomes meaningful, not just physical exertion.
Builds resilience: When the body wants to quit, purpose keeps the mind moving.
Connects effort to impact: Knowing their runs could help others made every mile worth it.
Inspires community: Their story brought people together, showing how support fuels endurance.
Without purpose, hard work can feel like a burden. With it, even the toughest challenges become opportunities to create change.
The Role of Support in Achieving the Impossible
Purpose alone is powerful, but support from others is essential. The FTD Brothers relied on a community of friends, family, and strangers who cheered them on, provided logistics, and shared their story.
This support:
Offered practical help like food, rest, and medical care.
Created emotional encouragement during moments of doubt.
Amplified their message, raising awareness far beyond their runs.
Their journey shows that no matter how strong your purpose, having others alongside you makes the impossible possible.

Lessons from the FTD Brothers’ Journey
Their story offers valuable lessons for anyone facing a tough challenge:
Find your why: Identify what truly matters to you. Purpose fuels perseverance.
Break big goals into steps: Running 33 marathons was daunting, but focusing on one day at a time made it manageable.
Build your support network: Surround yourself with people who believe in your mission.
Use symbolism to communicate: Jordan’s fridge carried a powerful message about the weight of dementia.
Turn fear into action: Facing a grim diagnosis, they chose to fight back through movement and awareness.
How Purpose Can Transform Your Hard Work
You don’t need to run marathons to experience the power of purpose. Whether you’re working on a career goal, personal project, or community cause, purpose can:
Increase motivation and focus
Help you overcome setbacks
Make your efforts feel meaningful
Inspire others to join your cause
Start by asking yourself what drives you beyond routine or obligation. What mission would make your hard work feel like flying instead of dragging?
